Shaking Hands with the Winner

Many people are upset with Cleveland Cavs superstar Lebron James for his actions of not shaking hands with the Orlando Magic after the Magic defeated James and the Cavs.

This is what James had to say about it:

"It's hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them," he said. "I'm a winner. It's not being a poor sport or anything like that. If somebody beats you up, you're not going to congratulate them. That doesn't make sense to me. I'm a competitor. That's what I do. It doesn't make sense for me to go over and shake somebody's hand."

Do you agree?  As a former player, when the emotions are thick and you were hearing a lot of talk on the court and you got beat up, it is difficult to congratulate them on the spot.  But because we live in a world where everything has to be fair (but not fair), and we have to do things for the kids, we have to suffer and do these things not to appear barbaric.

I mean you go to war with a country and you have to spare men and treat prisoners good.  The same prisoners that if they escaped, they would kill you in a heartbeat.

So after a ball game, shake hands to show the kids that it's okay to lose, no matter how upset you are.  Two boxers in the ring going at it; one guy bloodying up the other, and afterwards we want the guy who has two closed up eyes, two broken ribs, missing teeth, and bloody nose to come over to the other guy and force him to say congrats.  That's kind of weird, awkward, and shaky to me in my book.  What do you think?

Devin Harris...Duped & School

Interesting news out of London where a local Caucasian street-baller received the opportunity to play against NBA point guard Devin Harris. For those of you who do not know Devin Harris; he was popular player out of Wisconsin University and was drafted by the Dallas Mavs and played a big part in their finals appearance.

He was recently traded to New Jersey for Jason Kidd this past season. For what ever reason he has found his way in London (probably a media event), and found himself getting hustled by a street baller who was wearing jeans and a proper V neck sweater.

The kid appeared to be an average Joe off the street; but secretly he was a street ball whiz legend in London and put some pretty moves on Harris who was not expecting it. Harris took it well; but it just looked bad.

Cat Fight Ends in Brawl in WNBA

What happens when a 300 lb black man pushes a woman to the floor? He goes to jail. Not in the case with Rick Mahorn, assistant coach of the Detroit Shock, he was ejected. A fight broke out late in the game between Cheryl Ford and Candace Parker.

The fight escalated when Rick Mahorn (former enforcer for the bad boy Detroit Pistons), shoved WNBA star Lisa Leslie. To say she slipped is one thing, but she skid across the floor nearly 10 yards for a first down. People have to understand, Rick is a strong dude. Breaking up a fight is what he did and does.

What it is, is that Rich Mahorn and Bill Laimbeer revisited their Piston bad boy days, if you watch the video you can see Rick on his cell phone calling Dennis (Rodman), Isaiah (Thomas), and James "Buddy" Edwards in for back up (funny).

It amazes me in a country that has training on fire drill, emergency storm drills, etc, yet we don't have a drill to handle a fight or brawl.

Because we know that one person will attempt to stop the fight (we'll call them peacemakers) and while they are trying to stop the fight someone else will perceive it as an attack, and attack the peace maker. Which turns the peacemaker into a defender. A defender can be mistaken for an offender (in a distance 2 people arguing, who's the fool?), which will create another peacemaker, until everyone is on the attack or offensive - kill or be kill mode.

It's basketball, emotions will get going, Rick wasn't out of line - he probably got in the spirit too deep but a man who loves basketball like him and who has 4 daughters isn't going to shove a woman. Now if his daughters start speaking out saying, "daddy would shove us across the kitchen floor," then we can have a different view.

LA went on to win the game.
